Just an hour from Athens, Corinth is the perfect destination for families who want to explore mountains and villages, enjoy the beach and would love some culture in their adventures in Greece.
Day trips
If you choose to stay in Xylokastro, you’re close enough to visit the idyllic mountains and quaint villages of Corinth (40 minutes away). Ancient Corinth and Acro-Corinth archeological sites are also 40-45 drive away. The picture perfect town of Kalavryta is 1+ away. Diakopto, where a scenic train route starts is just 356 minutes away. You can ride it all the way to Kalavrita or make a stop at the quaint and remote village of Zahlorou.
Ancient Epidavros and the best preserved ancient theatre are both just over an hour away. While Nafplio, that amazing sea town, one of the prettiest in the country is 1 hour and 10 minutes drive away. Doxa Lake is breathtaking year round and it’s 1 hour and 20 minutes away. Lake Stymfalia and its mythic glory are even closer, less than 1 hour away. You can get to Nemea for some kid friendly wine tasting in 45 minutes.
Walks
We love walking in nature and it’s so beneficial for kids too. We loved our walk in Pefkias pine forest in Xylokastro right along the beach and the fact that it’s an easy bicycle ride too.
Beaches
There are longer beaches or smaller coves all across the Corinth bay area, some with pebbles, some with stones, some with some sand. The water is azure all the way. We recommend Vrahati beach, as well as Sykia beach right on Xylokastro.
Where to eat
Both Vrahati and Xylokastro towns offer some many lunch and dinner options – opt for a fish tavern with sea views.
Kalavrita and the surrounding villages are the ideal spots to indulge in some mountain-type homemade cooking – thank me later.
Where to stay
We recommend Daphne’s Club Hotel Apartmentss right on Sykia beach in Xylokastro. It’s a family oriented apartments only hotel, with everything a family might need for their stay: a fully equipped kitchen, baby bathtub, changing table, travel cots, high chairs, plastic cutlery, music instruments, playground, play area, bicycles, beach toys and more. Breakfast is included, but you can also opt for a vegetarian half board stay.
